The United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided to continue its crew change activities in all its ports and waters. Namely, according to the Federal Transport Authority, UAE will open crew changes to all ports across the nation’s seven emirates.
The measure was announced as UAE had manages to succesfully deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, UAE has adopted a protocol of continuing maritime activities by applying safety measures, according to the procedures for the gradual return of maritime activities.
What is more, UAE was among the states that committed to enable crew changes and provide key worker designation for seafarers.
Apart from the UAE, The 13 governments included representatives from:
- Denmark;
- France;
- Germany;
- Greece;
- Indonesia;
- the Netherlands;
- Norway;
- Philippines;
- Saudi Arabia;
- Singapore;
- UAE;
- United Kingdom;
- US.
As of now, it is estimated that more than 300,000 seafarers globally are stranded on ships and are in need of immediate repatriation
What is more, a similar number of seafarers urgently needs to join ships to replace them.
