During the Total’s Board of Directors meeting on 8 February 2021, the French oil major announced that will change its name to “TotalEnergies” as part of the general strategy to reach net zero emissions.
To remind, the oil company joined many of its peers in setting targets to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In light of the situation, Total plans to reduce its dependence on oil and shift towards electricity and renewable energy.
“To anchor this transformation, the group will propose to its shareholders at the annual general meeting on May 28, 2021, changing its name to TotalEnergies. They will hence have the opportunity to endorse this strategy and the underlying ambition to transition to carbon neutrality”
…Total said in a release.
As part of its decarbonization strategy, Total entered the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping as a strategic partner, in order to accelerate carbon neutral shipping solutions.
Recently, DNV GL has also decided to change its name to DNV on 1 March 2021, after a comprehensive review of the company’s strategy.
