The Federal Parliament of Belgium has proposed a target of 4GW of total installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 in the draft of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Belgium assures of a total 2030 renewables target of 18.3%, which allegedly is in contrast to the country’s 2020 renewable energy target of 13%.

The US Department of Energy has announced up to USD 28 million in funding for a new Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) programme to develop new technologies for floating offshore wind turbines using the discipline of control co-design (CCD).

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) is launching its second round of preliminary  investigations of offshore wind farm sites on February 1. Three areas are being investigated on which wind turbines will be operating from 2027 and 2028 onwards. The three areas are located in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the North Sea.

As IMO has demanded, the shipping industry's sulphur emissions should not exceed the 0.50% m/m of sulphur, by 2020 unless the ships are equipped with scrubbers or get along with other options available. 

Port of Rotterdam published a statement on a partnership between Pondera Development and SIF Holding Nederland, 'GE Renewable Energy and Future Wind', concerning the installation of the first prototype of the Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbine at Rotterdam-Maasvlakte in the summer of 2019. The collaboration includes a 5-year-test period and a 15-year period of full operation and maintenance. 

According to EIA, 23.7 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity additions and 8.3 GW of capacity retirements are expected for the U.S. electric power sector in 2019. The additions are embodied by wind (46%), natural gas (34%), and solar photovoltaics (18%), with the remaining 2% consisting primarily of other renewables and battery storage capacity.

Offshore wind farms in Germany increased their production of electricity over 18.8 Terawatt hours (TWh), which equals to 8% increase in comparison to 17.4TWh generated in the German North Sea and the Baltic Sea in 2017, according to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems.
