Norsepower, a clean technology and engineering company, announced that the Rotor Sail Solution received the first-ever type approval design certificate granted to an auxiliary wind propulsion system onboard a commercial ship.

Beleolico Srl, part of the Toto Group, reached a final investment decision on the 30MW Beleolico wind farm in the Italian Mediterranean. Located in front of Taranto harbour in the Apulia region, Southern Italy, in water depths of 4 to 18 metres, the Beleolico wind farm will feature ten Senvion 3.0M122 wind turbines.

The European Commission gave the green light to French plans on supporting four demonstration floating wind farms for producing electricity. The “Groix Belle Ile”project will be located in the Atlantic Ocean, while the other three projects('Golf du Lion', 'Eolmed', and 'Provence Grand Large') will be located in the Mediterranean Sea.

The SOC4NH3, Solid Oxide Cell based production and use of ammonia, project which is supported by ammonia-producer Haldor Topsoe and the University of Aarhus, aims to develop ammonia's options as both a sustainable fuel and also a solution for saving green power from wind and sun.

According to data from WindEurope, wind energy in EU accounted for the 14% of its electricity in 2018, experiencing an increase from 2017's 12%. The increase was due to continued development in capacity and the use of more powerful turbines are helping to increase wind’s share in the electricity mix.

Eneco and Vattenfall will place an enhanced version of the Slufterdam wind farm into service. The 17 wind turbines in the farm that have been supplying energy since 2002, have been replaced by 14 more efficient wind turbines. Consequently, the power has almost doubled from 25.5 MW to 50.4 MW. The 14 wind turbines generate 180 GWh of electricity every year, enough to cover the annual consumption of around 60,000 households.

RenewableUK is highlighting a new record amount of electricity generated by wind. Specifically, wind energy in Great Britain reached 15.32GW on February 8. It provided the 36% of Britain's electricity demand between 12:15 and 1:45 p.m. local time beating the previous record of 15.04GW set on 18 December 2018.

The Scottish Government relaunched the 'Saltire Tidal Energy Challenge Fund' aiming to help commercial deployment of tidal projects. The £10 million fundgoals to enhance and boost the commercial deployment of tidal energy in Scottish waters through driving innovation and reduction in the cost of electricity generated. The Saltire Prize challenge was firstly launched in 2008 to reward wave and tidal energy breakthroughs.
