As local sources report, a 46-year-old sailor from the Philippines suffered critical injuries in an accident, that took place during cargo holding operations. The sailor was onboard 'Bulk Japan' bulk carrier. The crewmember suffered spine and breast injuries and crashed arm with massive blood loss. 

Novatek announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee to develop an integrated energy-generating project with the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) within the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The energy-generating project will deliver LNG using current infrastructure as well as developing new infrastructure.

Indonesia sank 51 foreign fishing vessels as part of the government's attempts to tackle illegal fishing. The seized ships were sunk on May 4, of which 38 were Vietnamese, 6 Malaysian, 2 Chinese, 1 Filipino, and the rest were foreign-owned ships flying the Indonesian flag. Speaking about the occasion, Susi Pudjiastuti, the fisheries minister, noted that illegal fishing ships are threatening the local fishing industry.

A video widely shared on social media reportedly shows a Vietnamese coast guard ship hitting an Indonesian navy ship Monday, after the navy intercepted a boat it says was fishing illegally in its waters. Indonesian authorities detained 12 Vietnamese fishermen from the vessel.

Mohammad Rastad, Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, is in talks with Vietnamese officials with the aim of improving trade and connectivity capacities between the two countries. The first meeting between Iran and Vietnam Maritime cooperation group will take place in Tehran at the end of 2019, as reported by Mohammad Rastad.

The Port of Oakland announced that it will add new, directive service to Vietnam by late April. Pacific International Lines (PIL) will launch direct Vietnam links using vessels that can carry up to 11,900 twenty-foot containers. PIL’s new service is called AC5 and is in partnership with Cosco and Wan Hai.

Four former leaders of the state-owned Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), now the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), have been charged with abusing position and power to appropriate assets. Accused of violations is former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ocean Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OceanBank) Ha Van Tham and his accomplices.

Cai Mep International Terminal handled the largest container vessel, to first ever, voyage to a Vietnamese port on January. The CMA CGM Marco Polo called at the terminal on January 11, 2019 as part of its FAL 3 Asia to Europe Trade Service, according to the ports statement.

The report provides insights for incidents reported in the whole of Asia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, South China Sea and Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has published a circular to regulate marine oil spill cleanup and recovery efforts. Specifically, a preliminary investigation on the level of pollution will have to be made within the first 10 days after the report of an oil spill. The circular will apply from March 12.
