Following the UN resolution to address seafarers as key workers, European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) welcomed this decision, noting that it is a significant step to resolve the crew change crisis.

ICS has welcomed a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, which calls for all countries around the world to designate seafarers as key workers and is seen as the first step in a long-awaited action to resolve the crew change crisis.

Houthi Authorities in Yemen gave approval to the United Nations to visit and assess a deteriorating oil tanker off Yemen’s coast that is threatening to spill 1.1 million barrels of crude oil into the Red Sea.

Reuters reports that a United Nations team will have to wait several weeks to access a deteriorating tanker off Yemen's shore that is threatening to spill 1.1 million barrels of crude oil in the Red Sea.

Saudi Arabia urged the U.N. Security Council that an “oil spot” had been seen in a shipping transit area 31 miles west of a decaying tanker and is threatening to spill 1.1 million barrels of crude oil off the coast of Yemen, as Reuters reported.

Following the still unresolved crew change crisis, major shipping and labour stakeholders jointly issued a statement urging all United Nations Member States to take action and find a solution.

The United Nations is still waiting for Yemen’s Houthi group to allow the deployment of an assessment team to a decaying oil tanker that is threatening to spill 1.1 million barrels of crude oil.

The UN environment chief said that “time is running out” to prevent an environmental, economic and humanitarian catastrophe from a deteriorating oil tanker loaded with 1.1 million barrels of crude oil that is moored off Yemen.
