Sustainable development – a bridge to future business

The environment, economy and society are key aspects of sustainability. Sustainable development will enable us to meet our needs without preventing future generations from meeting theirs. How is the container handling industry doing today and what could we do better in the future? In terms of the environmental aspects, we are currently seeing continuous development in the reduction of emissions from container handling equipment: Tier 4 Final diesel engine technology, hybrid engines, fully electronic and start/stop engines, as well as conversion of braking and spreader-lowering into electric power. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) offers a viable source of alternative energy. From the material use perspective, crane refurbishment and recycling are already important parts of the business. Energy is being saved in fully automated terminals which do not need lighting at night. These are just a few examples of the progress we have made. Where can we improve? The general attitude to climate change and regulations is changing, with sustainability becoming a must. Forerunners view sustainability as a major business opportunity. Recycling of non-renewable materials, limited use of renewable materials, use of renewable energy and ensuring that the materials used do not harm the ecosystem – all of these contribute to a ...

Singapore on track to reduce emissions

The Ministry of The Environment And Water Resources of Singapore has questioned the methodology used in the WWF report, and stressed Singapore’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The ministry stated that the report fails to recognise Singapore’s unique circumstances as a small island city-state with no hinterland and it does not give due recognition to Singapore’s real environmental achievements, including  long-standing commitment to sustainable development and resource efficiency. The report also allocated international marine and aviation bunker emissions to each country in proportion to the country’s share of international trade volume, a practice not shared by other agencies such as UNFCC and International Energy Agency. The ministry said that this results in a gross over-estimation of Singapore’s per capita carbon footprint as Singapore sits on a vital global shipping route and has one of the busiest transhipment ports in the world Source: Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources In the starting, I was forthright with you propecia before and after has changed my existence. It has become much more fun, and now I have to run. Just as it is incredible to sit.

An estimated 11.2 billion tonnes of solid waste is collected worldwide every year and its degeneration contributes to about five per cent of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.A joint DP World-HPH campaign, which will run from 19 to 21 September, has been established and follows the theme 'Recycling Begins & Ends with You'. The campaign will see employees of DP World and HPH 'reach across the fence' and engage in joint activities in locations around the world where these companies operate terminals within the same port complex such as Laem Chabang (Thailand), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Busan (South Korea) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). The list of joint activities that are being developed include clean-up days at terminals, beaches or other affected areas specific to each locality, food waste disposal and composting efforts, e-waste and battery recycling, office recycling and green transportation to reduce vehicle emissions.
