Nautilus has called for calm among British shipowners in the wake of the referendum vote in favour of the UK's exit from the European Union.

The port of Frederikshavn announced that the EU-financed LNG Bunkering Project 'The Nordic Maritime Hub' project has been officially launched in Denmark. The project consortium, consisting of Port of Frederikshavn, Kosan Crisplant and Stena Line, will meet the demands of the modern maritime sector by improving the port access facilities, establishing shore side power supply to be used by e.g. Stena Line’s ferries, and by establishing bunkering facilities for alternative fuels.

 Stena Line  will take advantage of LEMAG’s SLASHPOL-E WIF homogenisers to reduce NOx emissions, particulate matter, smoke, and most of all fuel consumption.  The company has fitted a total of sixteen of its vessels with LEMAG WIF homogenisers.The combination of LEMAG SLASHPOL E-WIF and the HFT stabiliser results in significantly increased fuel economy, while reducing the NOx, black smoke and particulate matter, and CO2 emissions, states LEMAG.WIF (water in fuel) homogenisers have been around for a long time, but like a lot of existing marine technology it has received a lot of renewed interest in the last few years, which has resulted in increased investment in R&D. Stena Line and the Port of Rotterdam announced their collaboration to build a second berth at Europoort

Stena Line has announced that it will convert its vessel Stena Germanica to methanol propulsion, making it the world’s first methanol vessel. The 240m-long ferry will be converted to run on methanol at a cost of EUR22m ($27.5m), the first such conversion of its type. The 1,500-passenger ferry Stena Germanica will be the world’s first ship powered by methanol. With an aim to reduce emissions, the conversion of the vessel will take place at the at Remontova Shipyard in Poland starting January 2015. Wartsila in co-operation with Stena Teknic will be using an engine conversion kit, which will allow the vessel to operate in dual-fuel configuration using methanol supplied by Methanex.
