As the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore informed, the Port Master prohibits all vessels from transiting, anchoring or remaining in the demarcated area off Marina Barrage. This prohibition shall take effect on 22 September 2019 from 1800hrs to 2300hrs.

According to the MPA Singapore, because of the presence of haze, the visibility in the Singapore Strait and port waters could be significantly reduced. Namely, it has been reported that the average 24-hour PSI level is between 101 and 200. This PSI level range is considered as unhealthy.

Malaysia is examining plans to enhance its bunkering sector, so as to catch up with Singapore’s performance in the similar industry, according to the Malaysian Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Currently talks are underway, with the main problem being that Malaysia's bunkering facilities are not big enough.

A total of eight incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in August, representing a 11% decrease compared to August 2018, according to ReCAAP ISC's monthly report. The number of incidents involving tug boats towing barges has seen a rise in the Singapore Strait, with a total of 14 incidents reported only in 2019 (until 15th August). Of these, nine incidents reported loss of scrap metal from their barges.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force commissioned three new marine firefighting vessels, including what is considered the world's most powerful in terms of water output, on Tuesday, August 20. The heavy fire vessel 'Red Sailfish' can pump out 240,000 litres of seawater a minute. It will start operation from 2020.

Sinanju Logistics Services signed into a two-year time charter agreement on 25 July with ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (ExxonMobil) for a new-build bunker tanker five months ahead of commencing operations. The 7,990 dwt newbuilding, soon to be christened “Marine Vicky”, will be the first bunker tanker for Singapore and Sinanju, to be fueled mainly by LNG.

Malaysia informed that it continues to develop plans to antagonize Singapore’s bunkering dominance, as Johor Port Authority has presented $477 million development of an oil storage and bunkering site in the country’s south. The Bunker Island Development project will consist of two jetties and seven berths, which will have a storage capacity of approximately 1.2 million cbm. It is expected to be completed in four years.
