Following the coronavirus outbreak, major shipyards in China have started operations, however some of the largest private shipyards in the region still remain closed, according to the news agency Xinhua. In light of the situation, delivery delays are expected even from the most vital shipbuilders.

A shipyard worker died as he was working on a newbuilding vessel at the Fukuoka Shipbuilding in Japan. According to reports, the worker had been injured while cleaning the ship’s cargo tank, and later succumbed to the injuries.

As the NGO Shipbreaking Platform informed via its twitter account, three workers lost their lives and at least six were injured because of a toxic gas leak at a shipbreaking yard in Chattogram, Bangladesh. The incident took place on July 31, at the shipbreaking yard of MAK Corporation.

Chatsworth, US-based investment banking firm, is collaborating with Onex Elefsis Shipyards on investment of about USD 400 million in financially-distressed Elefsina Shipyards. The agreement for the partnership was decided on July 9, between the two companies. Now, Chatsworth Securities became the stakeholder of the shipyard and is also the exclusive investment bank for the company's capital needs.

On Tuesday, July 2, a worker suffered serious injuries after an industrial accident at Irving Shipyard and was then hospitalised. Up to now, there are no details on how the worker fell. The Shipyard commented that the worker was a contractor who was injured while 'serving a piece of contractor's equipment.'
