New North Sea Shipping Routes

New shipping routes to come into foce on 1 August 2013 The Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator has received the attached from the International Chamber of Shipping (please click at Marine Safety Advisory No.14 below) regarding the extensive changes to North Sea shipping routes which will enter into force on 1 August 2013.Note that new paper charts and ENCs of the area will be available from mid-June 2013 and required from August 2013 and on 30-31 July and 1 August 2013, buoyage will be altered to establish new and revised routing measure.What is to change? The new shipping routescome into effect at midnight UTC (2 a.m. local time) on 1 August 2013. The main changes are:a new Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) - already in force in Rotterdam - will be introduced in the approaches to IJmuiden. This will ensure that vessels sailing in opposite directionshave their own sea lanes.the routes will be located farther from the coast the routes will intersect each other less often anchorage areas will be relocated or abolished the space around objects (platforms, etc.) will be configured differently 'areas to be avoided' and 'precautionary areas' will be introduced.
