The 2023 SAFETY4SEA Athens Forum took place on 4th of October 2023, at Eugenides Foundation, Athens, focusing on key safety issues and trends concerning the human factor, as new technology emerges and impacts seafarers’ life and work onboard ships.

The 2023 SAFETY4SEA London Forum, which was held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, during the LISW, at the Ocean Suite of ICS Maritime Hub, London, UK, covered the most recent technological developments, regulatory updates, and trends.

Ship managers and operators need to keep promoting efforts targeting not only the mental health but also the physical wellness of crew onboard, highlighted experts in a panel discussion during 2023 Crew Welfare Week in last June.

Women seafarers make up just 2% of the crewing workforce and are predominately found in the cruise sector, while in ship-owning companies, they make up 34% of the workforce. Women may be less but that doesn’t mean they should be less-than. As the maritime industry strives to be more diverse and inclusive, women should not be left out, a panel during the 2023 Crew Welfare Week highlighted.

During a discussion on the second day of the 2023 Crew Welfare Week, ship managers focused on the key challenges related to seafarers’ wellbeing and highlighted the impact of technology and digitalization in shipping industry.

The SAFETY4SEA Crew Welfare Week took place 20-22 June 2023, where various presentations and panel discussions explored issued surrounding crew welfare. Mental health and welfare were also discussed as it is a crucial aspect of a person's wellbeing. 

During a discussion on the first day of the 2023 Crew Welfare Week, panelists focused on the challenges related to seafarers’ welfare and wellbeing and highlighted that ship managers and operators need to keep promoting efforts targeting both the physical and the mental health of crew onboard.
