Even though it may take a long road, LNG is becoming a much more attractive option and maybe the first step to the shipping decarbonization path, while BioLNG, synthetic LNG, carbon capture are all viable solutions with an already matured technology for reducing emissions, experts agreed in the latest GREEN4SEA Virtual Forum.

In a recent SAFETY4SEA Talk, Dr. Pennie Blackburn, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at ISWAN, Mr. Johan Smith, Wellness Programme Manager at Sailors’ Society and Capt. Hari Subramaniam, Regional Head-Business Relations at Shipowners’ Club highlighted the alarming trends with regards to mental health and suggested ways to eradicate the stigma around.

SAFETY4SEA announced the winners of the 2021 GREEN4SEA Virtual Awards on April 21st, recognizing industry’s outstanding practices for Sustainability, Clean Shipping, Initiative, Technology, Tanker Operator, Dry Bulk Operator and Personality.

The 2021 GREEN4SEA Virtual Forum focused on the regulatory agenda and industry’s ambitious targets and emerging challenges as we move forward to a more sustainable future for shipping.

SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the SAFETY4SEA Crew Welfare Survey, including Wellness & Wellbeing elements, as an industry initiative to assess status, provide feedback to all industry stakeholders and identify a roadmap to improve on welfare issues at an organizational and industry level. This will be the 2nd Crew Welfare Survey, following a similar initiative conducted within Q4 of 2019.

The recent trends in sustainability, thus the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, are now impacting the decisions of all maritime stakeholders, along with the emerging contractual and regulatory requirements. The industry now needs not only to communicate, but to engage with an effective strategy towards sustainable shipping.

What has been the impact of COVID-19 as a digital accelerator, and what are the options that are becoming the new normal in the market? These are some of the questions answered in the latest SMART4SEA talk, which explored the key smart challenges in the industry, as well changes to maritime operations, along with increased digitalization.

During the 2020 SAFETY4SEA Virtual Forum, the last panel focused on the challenges surrounding marine insurance claims such as the rise of damaged cargo and the increase of containerships fires, while discussed about how the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the risk environment around the high value and temperature-sensitive goods and how shipping industry is affected in several ways.

As a result of the rapid rise of digitalization and with automation gaining momentum within shipping, job requirements change. Regarding the maritime employment, during the second virtual CAREER4SEA Talk, speakers focused on the new skills required for young professionals aiming to join the industry.

During last SAFETY4SEA’s Virtual Forum, the attendees gave their insights on cyber security and its part in the shipping industry, highlighting that shipping has still a lot way to go, in regards to how it treats cyber risks. Also, in what is an industry first, the experts applauded IMO’s Resolution, effective from January 1st 2020, and explained why, to some extent, the COVID-19 crisis has a positive impact on the digital evolution.
