The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its Safer Seas Digest 2023, highlighting the most important lessons learned from 31 maritime tragedies that took place in 2023.

Following analysis of 42 cases, occurred during 2020, NTSB warns that new lithium-ion battery hazards can be every bit as deadly as the worst storms.

Fire-related casualties and explosions constitute the majority of incidents investigated in 2019, as shown by the latest NTSB Safer Seas Digest released last week. The type of vessels mostly involved in such incidents included fishing vessels and towing vessels with barges.
