ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) provided an insight into the incidents reported in Asia during January-September 2023 reporting a 37% increase in incidents of armed robbery and discussed security concerns of vessels transiting the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) with maritime stakeholders, during a recent dialogue.

In its 3rd quarter piracy report, ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC), provides an insight into the incidents reported in Asia during January-September 2023 compared to the trend of past incidents during the 16-year period of 2007-2022.

One actual incident of armed robbery against ships (CAT 2 incident) in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 24th and 30th October.

Three actual incidents of armed robbery against ships (two CAT 3 and one CAT 4) in Asia were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 17th and 23rd October.
