Masterplan 2040 Reviewed 2018 comes after an 18-month review period, which included extensive public consultation and the completion of major environmental studies, including a Strategic Transportation Study and a Strategic Environmental Assessment, which identifies reduced environmental impact from the developments.

The Port of Kiel will invest in cargo handling and environmental technology. Namely, the Port plans to re-design the entrance area to Kiel’s Ostuferhafen terminal, while another project aims for the creation of an onshore power supply plant for Kiel’s Norwegenkai terminal.

The construction of a 900-metre-deep deep-sea quay near the HoogTij business park along the North Sea Canal will start in August 2018. The total area will be able to accommodate 130 hectares of business activity. The work is scheduled to be completed in late 2019. he Port of Amsterdam will commission the project.

The commission of the Port of Corpus Christi approved $217 million in bonds, in an attempt to expand the its ship channel. Of these, around $102 million will be used for the ship channel project, while another amount is possible to be allocated for that work also. With the expansion, the Port will be able to welcome larger vessels and more goods.

The Port of Corpus Christi, which is US's largest oil export port will attempt to raise $300 million, in order to conduct work which will make the Port ready to handle the US shale export increase. A decision to raise fees for dredging, which could begin as of September, would be a rare move among US Gulf Coast ports.

The Port of Newcastle will launch the Newcastle Bulk Terminal development at Walsh Point, Kooragang Island. The launch of the Terminal is a $33 million investment made by the Port of Newcastle in bulk cargo handling equipment, infrastructure and additional strategic initiatives. Kooragang 2 and 3 berths will be dismantled.

On June 2, the Swedish Minister for Infrastructure Thomas Eneroth announced the government's decision to proceed with the deepening of the fairways at the Port of Gothenburg. This will allow larger vessels to call at the Port of Gothenburg fully loaded. The new project will increase the maximum depth of the fairways from 13.5 metres to about 16 metres.

South Australia Government approved the widening of the Adelaide Outer Harbor Channel. The 40m widening will enable safe passage for vessels of larger size. In addition, a Dredge Management Plan will be implemented to provide a clear plan for the monitoring and management of possible dredging impacts.

Víctor Rossi, Uruguay’s Transport & Public Works Minister, informed that mid-year Uruguay will present its master plan for port activity 2018-2035. As Mr. Rossi said, the plan is now in its final stage of development. The plan contains projections about new operational and commercial areas, which include the construction of new docks, port expansion and more services.

As part of the upgrading programme the Port spent its resources on new full-revolving electric portal cranes with capacity of up to 40 tonnes. These cranes will be delivered to the berths during this year. The Port also acquired special tooling for transshipment of reinforcing steel.
