The European Shippers’ Council together with the other associations, such as CLECAT and IRU, has asked the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union to reduce the administrative and financial burden related to the guarantees against customs debts.  

The Danish Maritime Authority announced availability of a new, digital version of the Radio Medical Record, in a bid to digitalize as many work processes as possible to ease the burdens imposed on seafarers as much as possible.

Hyundai Merchant Marine announced that it has successfully completed its first blockchain technology adopted pilot voyage. The voyage was conducted by a blockchain consortium, from Korea to China, with reefer containers from August 24 to September 4.  

In line with its plans to enhance digitalization in shipping, the Danish Maritime Authority announced that the Ship Station License has now become digital, reducing the number of administrative burdens imposed on the industry. The DMA has recently digitized other ship certificates too.

On the occasion of the Digital Assembly, on 15 -16 June, European seafarers and shipowners highlight the importance that shipping is better served by smart digital solutions, to finally decrease the administrative burden they face. Shipping today is still hampered by endless paperwork, which causes detriment of the crew and affects the overall smooth shipping operations.

GAC has introduced a new centralised service which allows operators to delegate Entry Summary Declarations for all EU member states where their vessels call to GAC, regardless of whether or not it is the nominated agent handling the port call.

Report re less paperwork on board ships heDanish Maritime Authoritypublished a report indicating which administrative tasks are perceived as burdens by seafarers and shipowners.The report sums up findings from three different surveys on administrative burdens on board ships focusing on the perception of administrative tasks among Danish and international seafarers as well as Danish shipowners, respectively. The summary report's conclusion is that the amount of administrative tasks is decisive rather than the individual task. Seafarers have a perception that they spend 20 per cent of their working hours on tasks that do not add value corresponding to the effort made, i.e. administrative burdens. Main findingsOver the last 20 years the maritime system and all the stakeholders involved in themaritime sector have aimed to continually improve safety and efficiency at sea.The efforts have mainly focused on the creation of formal standardised proceduresand requirements to create safety and efficiency.
