Shanghai is entering its third week on lockdown, while supply chains are feeling the impact of China's zero-covid policy with trucking capacity cut and many factories and warehouses closed.

According to Maersk, the world’s second-largest container shipping company, the 1st quarter of 2022 witnessed another wave of COVID-19 flareups in China, creating big concerns for the global supply chain. 

The Government of Hong Kong removed the COVID-19 related restrictions on bunker-only calls. The change is in effect as of April 1.

Shanghai, China's most populous city, is set to remain shut, including Puxi and a significant part of Pudong. Despite the fact that the restrictions were about to be lifted, the timeframe of the imposed lockdown was changed. 

On March 30, 2022, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) removed its COVID-19 notice against cruise travel. 

According to Maersk, the world’s second-largest container shipping company, the Shanghai lockdown imposed by the authorities in order to stop the virus spreading, will have a great impact on trucking services and will increase transport costs.

Chinese authorities announced a strict lockdown for some western areas of Shanghai, as new COVID-19 cases jumped by a third, despite the measures taken by the country to stop the virus spreading. Following this situation, the congestion at the city's port increased heavily since early March. 

Following an increase in COVID-19 cases in China, Shanghai will go into a new two-stage lockdown, as it was announced on Sunday, creating concerns over supply chain disruption.

Shenzhen lifted the week-long lockdown yesterday, but part of its central business district remains closed as the city tries to get back to zero COVID-19 cases. On top of that, limited trucking and warehousing availability created some supply chain issues.

China has published a document for Vessels engaged in International Voyages which came into force on February 15th, 2022 and concerns prevention and control measures against COVID-19.
