Dutch-based Van Oord announced it has been selected as a contractor for a large 640 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan, marking first steps to the Asian offshore wind market. The Yunlin project, which has a contract value of approximately EUR 500 million, will be constructed eight km off the coast of the Yunlin prefecture.

The funding, subject to approval from the State Bond Commission on June 1, will include demolition of selected structures, site improvements, storm water treatment and drainage improvements, upgrades to increase laydown capabilities, construction of a heavy lift pad, improvements to load bearing capacity, and replacement of mooring dolphins.

A new shore power facility has entered into service at the German port of Cuxhaven, in North Sea, west of Hamburg, on 25 May 2018. The ShoreCONNECT in Cuxhaven will mainly be used by vessels transporting Siemens Gamesa’s wind turbine parts. 

The final turbine was installed on Saturday at Vattenfall's European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, off Scotland, which is believed to be the country's largest offshore wind test and demonstration facility. EOWDC will be able to produce more than 70% of Aberdeen’s domestic electricity demand and annually displace 134,128 tonnes of CO2. 

Massachusetts chose a partnership between Avangrid Inc and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to develop what will be the largest US offshore wind farm off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. Vineyard Wind’s 800 megawatt proposal is the largest ever procurement of offshore wind by a US state.

Ideol and STX Europe Offshore Energy will develop a new generation of floating substation. This floating substation will be compatible with both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind farms. The two companies will build a floating substation for both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind farms starting at depths of 30 meters. 

The offshore wind turbines off the coast of Aberdeen show a change in direction for the city, its energy mix and its offshore industry, the UK Chamber of Shipping said. The turbines are part of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, which is being installed in Aberdeen Bay.

Vattenfall released a video, depicting a time-lapse footage of the wind turbine installation at its European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre located just off the north east coast of Scotland in Aberdeen Bay. The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre is Scotland’s largest offshore wind test and demonstration facility, being Scotland’s largest offshore wind test and demonstration facility which is being developed by Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm.

The Port of Seville in Spain, and especially the Armamento dock, will accommodate a new commercial shipment of offshore wind towers. The GRI Towers Sevilla company has transported four parts of towers in the last days. Each tower weighs 380 tonnes and is 85 metres in length. The large structures are heading to the East Anglia One park.

A joint industry project, comprising DNV GL, ECN, WMC, BREM, VanderHoekPhotonics, Deltares and other partners, seeks to reduce power-cable failures in offshore wind farms. These failures are the key risk affecting the offshore wind industry, representing about 80% of insurance claims.
