General Dynamics NASSCO hosted a keel laying ceremony for the future USNS Hershel “Woody” Williams, the U.S. Navy’s second Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) currently under construction at the company’s San Diego shipyard.

General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk was awarded the Mid-Atlantic CVN private sector maintenance contract, a five-year cost-plus-award-fee and incentive fee contract to perform non-nuclear planning and maintenance work during six CNO availabilities on four CVN-68 Class (Nimitz) and one CVN-78 Class (Ford) vessels home-ported in or visiting Norfolk, Virginia.

General Dynamics NASSCO has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for the detailed design and construction of the next generation of fleet oilers, the John Lewis-class (TAO-205), previously known as the TAO(X). This contract is for the construction of six ships.

NASSCO recently celebrated the delivery of the Magnolia State to longtime customer American Petroleum Tankers (APT). The ECO Class tanker is one of the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly tankers in the world and symbolizes the emerging future of green shipping. It is also the fifth ship NASSCO shipbuilders have delivered in the past eight months.

General Dynamics NASSCO shipbuilders launched and christened another ECO Class tanker that will join the Jones Act fleet. Once delivered, the Garden State will also join the ranks as one of the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly product tankers in the world.

General Dynamics NASSCO welcomed a christening ceremony for the second ECO Class tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT) under construction at the company's shipyard in San Diego. U.S. Representative Scott Peters spoke at the ceremony, and the ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Trang Cormack, christened the ship with the traditional break of a champagne bottle alongside the ship.

 NASSCO delivered the world's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containership, the Isla Bella, to TOTE Maritime. The ship was delivered nearly two months ahead of schedule. NASSCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.As part of a two-ship contract signed in December 2012 with TOTE, the 764-foot long Marlin Class containerships will be the largest dry cargo ships powered by LNG, making them the cleanest cargo-carrying ships anywhere in the world. This groundbreaking green ship technology will dramatically decrease emissions and increase fuel efficiency when compared to conventionally-powered ships, the equivalent of removing 15,700 automobiles from the road."Successfully building and delivering the world's first LNG-powered containership here in the United States for coastwise service demonstrates that commercial shipbuilders, and owners and operators, are leading the world in the introduction of cutting-edge, green technology in support of the Jones Act," said Kevin Graney, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics NASSCO.The delivery of this historic ship, also demonstrates successful collaboration between industry and regulatory bodies.
