In order to inform crewmembers, Marshall Islands published an advisory highlighting regulations and recommendations from recent casualty investigation reports for cargoes presented for shipment as a Group C, Ammonium Nitrate Based Fertilizer (non-hazardous).

The Marshall Islands announced an ambitious plan, aiming to limit its greenhouse emissions to zero by 2050. The Pacific country became the first small island nation to present such a strategy amid worldwide interest towards cutting GHG emissions. The Marshall Islands’ strategy seeks to slow climate change in the transport, electricity and waste sector.

Green Award-certified ships registered in the RMI Registry will now enjoy a 30% discount on their annual marine services fee. The Green Award is a voluntary certification scheme for ships that go beyond the industry’s regulations in terms of safety, quality, and environmental performance.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands issued an alert informing of two confined space entry incidents on an RMI-flagged tanker and an RMI-flagged bulk carrier, which occurred within approximately 24 hours of each other, resulting in deaths of three seafarers and two seafarers losing consciousness.

Compliance with MARPOL's discharge requirements by a vessel many times depends on the availability of enough port reception facilities. Inadequate port reception facilities can raise a serious pollution threat to the marine environment. For this reason, the Republic of the Marshall Islands presents ways to deal with such situations.

The Republic of Marshall Islands reminded the need for verifying and submitting the Critical Items Checklist before arrival in any US Port. Namely, The checklist aims to reflect the status of the critical items that may cause a dangerous situation condition or Port State control detention.

RMI's submission to the IMO provides technical information focusing on safety implications and challenges associated with using new fuel oil blends compliant with the new 0.50% sulphur fuel oil. It intends to assist IMO in developing guidelines on the implementation of Reg 14.1.3 MARPOL Annex VI.

The Republic of Marshall Islands issued a circular citing requirements for shipboard occupational health and safety programs and informing of restrictions on work that is considered hazardous to seafarers under 18 years old, in line with MLC. It is prohibited to engage a seafarer under 18 years old in work that is considered hazardous.
