At an EU Code of Conduct Group meeting last week, EU approved the proposed amendments to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Economic Substance Regulations promulgated by the Registrar of Corporations. The amendments warrant removal of RMI from the list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands warned of potential damage on immersion suits which could render them unusable and advised all interested parties to ensure that all immersion suits are properly fitting, well-maintained, and ready for use in an emergency.

Following the two tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman last week, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) issued a ship security advisory recommending operators of all RMI-flagged vessels transiting this area to circulate it to their ships 'by the most expeditious means possible'.

Therefore, the Republic of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator urges all RMI-flagged vessels transiting the designated areas listed in the below Advisory to exercise caution.

The Maritime Administration of the Republic of Marshall Islands issued a marine notice concerning vessels sailing in Indonesian waters and intend to anchor in these areas. Also, vessels should operate at Security Level 2, maintain strict anti-piracy watch and measures, and report all security incidents and suspicious sightings to the local authorities and the IMB PRC. 

The Maritime Administration of the Marshall Islands issued an advisory concerning vessels operating in or near the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman. The note highlights that many are the countries that conduct naval exercises and operations in these areas. Thus, this advisory supplements information and navigation warnings routinely provided by other sources.

Two years after the VLOC Stellar Daisy sank along with almost its entire crew in the South Atlantic Ocean, the Marshall Islands issued the investigation report on the accident, identifying a 'catastrophic structural failure of the ship’s hull' as key cause of the accident. 

According to the International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Water (Polar Code), and further amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), Marshall Islands require deck officers on RMI-flagged vessels operating in Polar waters to be Polar certificated.
