The Republic of Marshall Islands informed there have been numerous heads found with missing, broken, and wasted parts. These issues have been found on vessels of varying ages ranging from new delivery to existing vessels in service. Owners and operators are urged to open and inspect these vent heads every three months.

Captain John Hafner, International Registries, Inc., provides feedback on how the Maritime Labour Convention, which became effective four years ago, has succeeded in  improving working & living conditions on board. 

As of 01 July 2018, Masters, Chief Mates, and Officers in Charge of a Navigational Watch onboard ships operating in polar waters must be qualified in accordance with STCW Convention Regulation V/4 and meet the standard of competence for training found in the STCW Code Section A-V/4.

RMI issued a marine notice setting out the requirements for complying with IMO Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas. A PSSA is an area provided special protection through IMO because of its ecological, socio-economic or scientific significance, and which may be vulnerable to damage by international maritime activities. 

The Republic of Marshall Islands issued a marine notice, setting out the revised requirements for hot work, including all ships, not just tank ships and combination carriers. Hot Work involves sources of ignition or temperature sufficiently high enough to cause the ignition of a flammable gas mixture.

This report shall be submitted to the Maritime Administration as soon after the occurrence of the casualty as possible. The form should be completed by the Master or person in charge or, if neither is available, by the owner of his duty authorized agent.

The Maritime Safety Committee, during its ninety-fifth session, confirmed that there was no need to amend International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea regulation II-1/11 or to develop any associated guidelines, as the safety level is sufficient.

The Republic of Marshall Islands released a Marine Notice, in which it establishes the requirements for carriage of publications on board RMI flagged vessels and provides a listing of approved publications providers.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands issued advisory to outline the Ballast Water Exchange requirements for ships on a voyage between two North Sea ports, as set out in International Maritime Organization Circular BWM.2/Circ.56.

RMI Administrator issued a marine advisory to underline the importance of ensuring awareness of the requirements for completing and submitting RMI 'Critical Items Checklist', and ensuring that it accurately reflects the status of the critical items, to avoid unsafe conditions onboard RMI-flagged ships.
