Five incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (two CAT 3 and three CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 28 March – 3 April 2023.

ReCAAP ISC informed that four incidents were reported on board ships while underway in the eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait, from 27 – 31 March 2023.

The Monjasa tanker, which was hijacked by pirates six days ago, was found and secured yesterday off Sao Tome and Principe, but some crewmates have been kidnapped.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (both CAT 4 incidents) was reported to ReCAAP ISC,  between 21 – 27 March 2023.

Pirates boarded the 13,700-dwt product carrier Monjasa Reformer on Saturday night 260 kilometers off the coast of Pointe Noir, Republic of the Congo.

One incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia (CAT 4 incident) was reported to ReCAAP ISC between 14 - 20 March 2023.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (one CAT 3 incident and one CAT 4 incident) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 28 February - 6 March 2023.

In February 2023, nine incidents of armed robbery against ships (occurred in internal waters, archipelagic waters and territorial seas) were reported in Asia. No incident of piracy (occurred on high seas) was reported. Of the nine incidents, eight incidents were reported in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS), which remains an area of concern. The number of incidents reported in SOMS accounts for 75% (12 of 16 incidents) of the total number of incidents in Asia reported during January-February 2023.
