MHI wins order from Hitachi Zosen for high-pressure gas supply system

 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received an order from Hitachi Zosen Corporation for a high-pressure gas supply system enabling use of natural gas as fuel in marine engines.In lieu of conventional heavy oil, the system supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG), injected under high pressure, to the engine. This configuration curbs emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2), thus contributing to reduction of environmental loads. Delivery of the system is scheduled for the second half of 2016, for installation at Hitachi Zosen's Ariake Works in Nagasu-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture. After use in gas fuelled demonstration testing of a marine diesel test engine, Hitachi Zosen will use the system to provide gas fuel for the marine diesel engines that the company manufactures.The order is the second for this system received by MHI, as well as the first system delivered to Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Wärtsilä 34DF engine ordered for LNG carriers

The three major South Korean shipyards are supporting the use of this engine for auxiliary applications in the LNG Carrier segment where dual-fuel engines are favoured. South Korea currently has more than 80% of the total order book for LNG tankers, while the Wärtsilä 34DF engine has achieved an auxiliary application market share of approximately 70% in this sector.During the first half of this year Wärtsilä has been awarded contracts for 56 Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel auxiliary engines for 14 new LNG Carriers being built for four different owners. This means that Wärtsilä has already received orders for nearly 100 such engines from these three yards since it was re-launched with a higher MCR (maximum continuous rating) in 2013. LR to class two large LNG carriers to sail Panama Canal

A pair of Elcano-owned 178,000m³ LNG carriers, which will be built to LR class, will be two of the largest of their kind to navigate the Panama Canal – helping to revolutionise the global trade in LNG.The ships are powered by low-speed, dual-fuel gas injection diesel engines, driving twin propellers with high pressure gas supply systems. GAC handles first FSRU at Aqaba

 As Jordan steps up its LNG imports, GAC was entrusted with handling the first gas carriers to offload at Aqaba.The country has signed a sales and purchase agreement with Shell for the delivery of nearly 17 million cubic meters per day of gas, equal to approximately 25% of the National Electric Power Company’s daily needs, signaling an increase in demand for shipping and logistics services to support incoming Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers.GAC Jordan acted as agent for the ‘Golar Eskimo’ when it made its port call to offload 144,218 cubic meters of LNG from Qatar. Next-gen LNG carrier joint industry project completed

  GasLog announced the completion of the LNGreen joint industry project. The LNGreen joint industry project brought together experts from GasLog, DNV GL, GTT and Hyundai Heavy Industries(“HHI”) to develop a state-of-the-art, next-generation, LNG carrier. Each of the project partners contributed their unique know-how and experience to develop the LNG carrier of tomorrow using the latest technology within the bounds of existing shipbuilding methods. The vessel concept has a significantly improved environmental footprint, a higher level of energy efficiency, an improved boil-off rate, and improved cargo capacity. Applying 2-stroke propulsion technology makes the vessels very well suited to future LNG trading patterns. The LNGreen project focused on improving the efficiency and performance of the modern LNG carrier by analyzing actual operational performance data, focusing on further optimization through reassessment of vessel hydrodynamics, machinery and systems configuration. These improvements will lead to greater efficiency and cargo capacity without any compromise to the safety or quality of the vessels. BP charters two new LNG carriers

  “K” Line LNG Shipping (K-LNG) announced that the joint-venture consortium of K-LNG and Chandris (Hellas) has entered into long-term Time Charter contracts with the BP group for two LNG Carrier newbuildings. The vessels, which will have a capacity of 173,400m3, will be constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. in South Korea. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2018. It is expected that the vessels will primarily be engaged in the transportation of LNG from the Freeport LNG project in Texas, USA. K-LNG said that will further develop their relationship with the BP group in the energy transportation sector. K-LNG will undertake ship management of the two vessels. LNG carrier Fukurokuju named at Kawasaki Heavy

  Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) took part in a naming ceremony for the newbuilding liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier LNG FUKUROKUJU, which is co-owned by MOL and Kansai Electric Power, at Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Among the many guests on hand were KEPCO President and Director Yagi, who named the new vessel, and his wife, who cut the rope. The LNG FUKUROKUJU will serve a broad range of projects including the Australia/Pacific LNG Project after the delivery. The vessel adopts a new steam turbine engine that reuses steam for heating, which will also reduce fuel consumption, and an advanced heat insulation system that offers the lowest LNG vaporization rate - 0.08% - of any LNG carrier in the world. Golar enters into agreement for third FLNG

  Golar LNG Limited announced today that it has executed agreement for conversion of the 126,000 m3 LNG carrier Gandria to a Golar floating liquefaction facility ("GoFLNG"). As with the GoFLNG Hilli and Gimi conversions, the primary contract for the GoFLNG Gandria was entered into with Singapore's Keppel Shipyard Limited ("Keppel"). The Gandria conversion contract marks the exercise of the second of two options that formed part of the initial 2014 Hilli conversion contract.  Black & Veatch will provide its licensed PRICO®technology, perform detailed engineering and process design, specify and procure topside equipment, and provide commissioning support for the GoFLNG topsides and liquefaction process. The decision to go ahead with the third conversion project was taken following a thorough review of the growing portfolio of business development opportunities for GoFLNG. This has shown potential demand from several possible customers for delivery of floating liquefaction facilities as early as 2018. Daewoo Shipbuilding wins LNG carrier order

  South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. announced that it has received an order to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from a Greek shipper. The new deal calls for Daewoo to deliver the LNG vessel, able to carry 173,400 cubic meters of natural gas, to the Greek shipowner Chandris by the latter half of 2018.  The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. As of end-June, Daewoo was the world's largest shipbuilder by order backlog for eight consecutive months, according to industry data. The latest contract comes despite concerns that Daewoo could be strapped for cash amid reports that it may have to book accumulated losses, estimated at some 2 trillion won (US$1.74 billion), on its balance sheet. The LNGreen joint industry project brought together experts from DNV GL and industry specialists from GTT, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the shipowner GasLog. Each of the project partners contributed their unique know-how and experience, to develop tomorrow’s LNG carrier using the latest technology, within the bounds of existing shipbuilding methods. The vessel concept has a significantly improved environmental footprint, a higher level of energy efficiency, as well as an improved boil-off rate and cargo capacity, making it much better suited to future trading patterns than existing vessels. LNGreen investigated the improvement of efficiency and performance of LNG carriers by considering actual operational conditions and optimisation in terms of hydrodynamics, machinery and system configuration. These developments were based on DNV GL’s integrated systems engineering approach COSSMOS, state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics calculations (CFD), and a containment system design, tailored to a specific operational profile and anticipated trades.
