The Korean Register of Shipping provides an insight into the inside threats the maritime IT/OT systems face. Due to the development of the maritime sector, digitalization and automation experience many challenges, as cyber threats seem to be increasing.

The Korea Shipowner's Association (KR) announced that the International Shipping Registry of Gabon has been advised to conduct inspections of vessels and issue certificates according to international agreements. In the future, Korean Register of Shipping will provide more rapid and satisfactory service to customers through more foreign agency inspection inspection orders and contribute to safety at sea.

In order to help understand some of the basic terminology of cyber-attacks, the Korean Register of Shipping explains what five key cyber terms mean. 1. OT (Operating Technology) This is hardware and software that detects or causes a change in physical processes through direct monitoring or control of physical devices such as valves, pumps, and etc. OT systems on board ships include propulsion, power generation and distribution, steering, navigation, communications, and cargo operations systems. 2. Zero-day threat This is a technical security threat that leverages vulnerabilities in computer software. It is an attack that takes place when a patch for the vulnerability is not developed yet. A 1-day vulnerability is an attack that happens when a patch has been released but has not been applied because of validation and various reasons. 3. Brute Force Attack In order to obtain an account for a user, it tries all the character combinations of usernames and passwords by repetitive manner until the user's account are matched to get the account information. Therefore, the Korean Register of Shipping provides guidelines on how to be sure and establish mobile security policy, due to the fact the Internet is a challenging area nowadays and hides dangers.

German dry bulk shipping operator Oldendorff Carriers said it has entered into an agreement with GSR Services and Korean Register (KR) for the development and certification of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for their fleet for meeting tight EU ship recycling regulation.

South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has delivered to compatriot Ilshin Logistics the world’s first LNG-fueled bulk carrier under the dual-class of Lloyd’s Register and Korean Register. The 50,000 dwt bulk carrier has been verified to be in compliance with the IGF Code.

The new system will provide online application functions, more content options and a more 'user-friendly' interface. Furhtermore, KR has digitalized all previous paper documents submitted by shipowners. This led to a new management function called "Survey Planner".

Korean Register has been granted authorization by the Portugal Maritime Authority to deliver statutory services on behalf of the Portugal flag state. KR's surveyors will now be carrying out vessel surveys and issuing certificates in accordance with international conventions.
