No open-up inspections required following Type Approval Kongsberg Maritime is pleased to announce that it has received system Type Approval for its Bearing Wear Condition Monitoring (BWCM) system. The Type Approval was received October 2011 and is according to Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) 'Guidelines for Machinery Condition Monitoring', meaning it is now approved to avoid open-up inspections, thereby reducing engine downtime and maintenance costs even further.The KONGSBERG BWCM system measures and displays the combined physical wear of crosshead, crank and main bearings, providing early bearing seizure warnings if problems occur during engine operation. It protects the engine continuously during operation, based on the latest specifications from MAN Diesel & Turbo including detection of sudden wear development. The sensors are specifically designed to provide reliable and accurate measurements over years of operation inside the engine. To date KONGSBERG has sold over 550 systems to new building and retrofit projects.Compared to manual clearance measurements, the BWCM will provide long-term wear data with better accuracy, higher repeatability and reliability. AISSat-1 satellite receives and forwards AIS messages from ships With payload developed by Kongsberg Seatex AS, Norway's AISSat-1 satellite was launched successfully from India last week.It has already begun transmitting AIS messages from space to earth via Kongsberg Satellite Services' ground station at Svalbard.AISSat-1 is an experimental satellite, equipped with a Kongsberg Seatex payload that receives and forwards AIS messages from ships. Using the technology in a fully developed system will improve safety at sea for vessels in Norwegian waters. It will make it easier to identify and coordinate vessels in search and rescue operations as well as assist and monitor the transport of dangerous goods and cargo in the high north.AISSat-1 is equipped with technology developed and built in cooperation between the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, Kongsberg Seatex, the Norwegian Coastal Administration and the Norwegian Space Centre. It is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry. To better support the large Greek fleet, Kongsberg Maritime opens new office in the port of Piraeus To better support the large Greek fleet, Kongsberg Maritime now has opened office in the port of Piraeus.With over 4.000 vessels, Greek ship owners control the world's largest merchant fleet, involved internationally in the cargo and passenger trade.There are around 700 shipping companies in the Athens and Piraeus area, so it was important for KONGSBERG to establish presence in Greece to better support its clients.Terje Dyhre (33) is General Manager for the new office. To promote realistic training in normal working and emergency conditions Kongsberg Maritime has announced that the company's Maritime Polaris bridge simulators and Maritime Neptune engine room simulators have been selected to equip a new state-of-the-art facility in Kazakhstan.The Caspian Maritime Training Center (CMTC), which opened in July in Aktau, is the first maritime training facility in Kazakhstan, and is aimed at developing the maritime industry in the Caspian region. It will be used to monitor critical above deck processes Kongsberg Maritime announces the successful delivery of high performance CCTV systems for installation on National Gas Shipping Company's (NGSCO) entire fleet of eight LNG carrier vessels in the Middle East.The project was secured in conjunction with Unique Systems FZE, Kongsberg Maritime's local sales agent.
