Currently 67 shipping lines operate fully cellular containerships in the container shipping industry. However, more than 87% of fleet capacity is controlled by only 10 of them, representing just fewer than 7% of the total lines.

ONE is a joint venture formed by K Line, MOL, and NYK, who informed that they will begin its business operations on April 1, 2018. Once ONE’s business operations starts, there will be up to four companies, namely ONE, K Line, MOL, and NYK operating on the same service in the same time during the transitional period until three pre-existing lines completely stop operating vessels. 

K Line, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Toyota Tsusho Corporation and NYK Line announced they have begun joint discussions on the commercialization of a new business to supply LNG as a marine fuel to ships in the Chubu, the central region of Japan.

The new ultra-large containership is same as the series delivered in 2015 and the first ship of the second generation. The ship will sail on the Asia-Mediterranean service under THE-Alliance. Milano Bridge will be 365.9 meters in length and 51.2 meters in width and will fly the flag of Panama.

The project regards an FSRU/FSU in the Offshore Digha region of West Bengal to provide re-gasified LNG to customers in West Bengal and Bangladesh. The FSRU/FSU for this project will be provided by K Line. H-Energy shall hold 74% in the joint venture Company while K Line shall hold the remaining 26% stake.

There is an increasing need to look beyond the technical aspects when addressing safety and performance in shipping. “K” Line LNG UK has found that a collaborative culture can be successfully applied to improve safety, reduce major accident risks and differentiate itself as an owner and operator.

The business integration of the three major Japanese container shipping companies, K Line, MOL and NYK, is expected in April of this year, marking a new beginning in the global supply chain. Ocean Network Express, aims to provide more competitive services, responding to the imbalance of supply and demand in the container shipping industry.

Although combined efforts have borne fruit in 2017, it appears that more time will be required before K Line sees a substantial recovery in the supply-and-demand balance, so it must continue to be prepared for tough times, was the main takeout of K Line's President & CEO, Eizo Murakami, in his New Year Message.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. held naming ceremony for a newly-built LNG carrier at Nagasaki Shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. The ship will have a tank capacity of 155,300m3 and she will be carrying LNG from the Ichthys LNG Project in Darwin, Australia to Naoetsu, Niigata after her delivery. 

Toyota Motor Corporation urges three major Japanese shipping lines to use LNG-fueled car carriers for transporting its cars, in a bid to support stringent environmental regulations and greater awareness of emissions.
