In light of the COVID-19 global outbreak, IMO decided to postpone its meetings. In fact, this decision came following United Kingdom's action to "delay" the phase of its coronavirus action plan and of course due to the increased travel restrictions and difficulties that delegates will face in order to attend the IMO gatherings.

IMO’s SSE 7 took place in London on 2-6 March 2020. Highlights included agreement of draft new requirements for onboard lifting appliances, and on draft new interim guidelines for safe operation of shore power, as well as progressed work on ventilation of survival craft and on fire safety of ro-ro passenger ships.

The IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) which started on 2 March, is set to finalize the draft guidelines focused on the safety of offshore power supply to vessels' operations, while is also working on crew safety matters.

Highlights of the PPR 7 included the finalization of the guidelines for scrubbers, development of a basis for work to determine the impact of scrubber water discharge, draft regulations for prohibiting the use and carriage of HFO as fuel in the Arctic, and revision of guidance on ballast water system commissioning.

IMO published the summary of the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers, 6th session (CCC 6), which took place from 9 to 13 September 2019. The Sub-Committee validated a new IMO Model Course on Safe Handling and Transport of Solid Bulk Cargoes.

IMO's Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers, held its 6th session on 9-13 September, focused on launching new initiatives to enable the use of methanol and ethanol as fuel, as well as the use of fuel cells, to meet IMO's climate strategy. 

IMO's Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers is meeting for its sixth session this week (CCC 6), on 9-13 September, where it is expected to validate a new IMO Model Course on Safe Handling and Transport of Solid Bulk Cargoes.

At the sixth session of its Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III) on 1-5 July, the IMO has brought together flag, port and coastal States, together with observer delegations, to consider and finalize updates to key instruments which assist in implementation.

IMO agreed to re-approach its listing process regarding the STCW Convention’s White List. As the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) informed, this development came as the drawing up of the list of countries for delisting from the STCW Convention ‘White List’ did not follow due process.

IMO's HTW 6 Sub-committee on 29 April-3 May considered matters relating to the list of STCW Parties (White List) and its review. The Sub-committee found that the white list of top-rated flag states would be decimated if requirements to report information were strictly enforced.
