The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) launched its guidelines on the ILO Maritime Labour Convention. The guidelines contain practical advice, information and key learnings from industry bodies at the heart of the shipping community. 

Esben Poulsson, the Chairman of ICS has commended the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) as being a 'model member'. Mr. Poulsson also highlighted that the lifting of the restrictions that Turkey has imposed on Cypriot-flagged ships would lead to a a win-win situation. Moreover, he expressed ICS's full support on 2020 sulphur cap, but highlighted its concerns regarding the prices of the new fuels.

A new survey from the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) presents that internet access for seafarers for personal use on board ships is more widespread and available than previously imagined. In addition, the survey shows the positive benefits related with this access, which outweigh the feared safety concerns regarding the technology.

A delegation from the ICS, the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) and the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) has, at the World Trade Organization in Geneva, raised concerns regarding recent increases in protectionist measures. The associations presented two position papers to the WTO, to highlight the importance of the shipping sector fully committing to the preservation and promotion of free trade policies and principles around the world.

IMO agreed to address maritime corruption by including this issue in its work programme for the Facilitation Committee. The decision to include an anti-corruption agenda came during the latest meeting of the IMO’s Facilitation Committee (FAL) in response to a submission from Liberia, Marshall Islands, Norway, United Kingdom, US and Vanuatu.

On April 8 in Singapore, the International Chamber of Shipping, the Asian Shipowners’ Association and the European Community Shipowners’ Associations signed a joint memorandum of understanding. The MoU enhances the level of co-operation that already exists between these international trade associations and provides a framework for their closer co-operation. 

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is co-organising a workshop with the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) to support the operationalisation of e-navigation solutions. This is the first workshop since Singapore's election to the IALA Council in 2018. The MPA-IALA e-navigation workshop will take place from 8 to 10 April.
