The International Association of Ports and Harbors issued its annual report for 2017-2018 noting a significant progress on the field of women in ports, with the appointment of two new vice-chairs and members at IAPH Women’s Forum.

IMO has developed a new set of toolkits to assess and address emissions from ships and ports. The Ship Emissions Toolkit and Port Emissions Toolkit have been developed under the GEF-UNDP-IMO GloMEEP Project, in collaboration with its strategic partners, IMarEST and IAPH.

Ports Australia accepted the invitation to join the World Ports Sustainability Program, an initiative by IAPH aiming to enhance sustainability efforts of ports worldwide and  foster international cooperation with partners in the supply chain, under the concept of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

The port community is represented in IMO through various organisations. Through closer cooperation between respective organisations, the ports will be able to take on its various challenges, was the key message of IAPH President Santiago Garcia Milà during IMO's special event on ports, on 11 June.

The International Association of Ports and Harbors and ICHCA International, the global NGO for cargo handling operations, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the Terminal Operators Conference in Rotterdam, to pursue cooperative projects of mutual interest, with a focus on sustainability.

A strategic partnership of the IMO-GloMEEP and the International Association of Ports and Harbors is helping selected countries to develop port emission inventories and draw up a port emission reduction strategy. A new three-day workshop package on the “Prevention and control of shipping and port air emissions” is being developed as part of the partnership.

Women's Forum to help bring more women into the industry The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has officially launched a Women's Forum conference component during the IAPH Mid-term Conference/Board Meeting in Jerusalem, Israel, last month. Prior to the official launch on May 23rd, IAPH Long Range Planning & Review Committee had extensively debated about how it could best facilitate a dialogue focused on networking and professional development of women in IAPH and across the global maritime industry where less than 10 women hold top port director positions. "This is a professional development and networking opportunity that everyone on the board felt very strongly about," said IAPH President and Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D. "Many of the executive teams at IAPH member ports have talented female executives, and IAPH is an ideal organization to help facilitate dialogue opportunities among them. I think that's a strong initial step for an industry dominated by men." Convening in Jerusalem on May 22, the IAPH Board of Directors welcomed this initiative and fully endorsed the launch of a Women's Forum to help bring more women into the industry.
