Germany-based energy supplier Uniper announced a project along with its consortium partners to build an electrolysis plant starting from 2020 in the central German chemical triangle that will produce green hydrogen with a capacity of up to 35 megawatts. This would be the first hydrogen cavern in continental Europe.

Construction has begun on liquefaction facilities linked to the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain (HESC) project at Port Hastings in Victoria, which will look at the feasibility of turning brown coal from the Latrobe Valley into hydrogen, which would then be liquefied and exported to Japan. The project has the potential to create $2 billion in exports for Australia.

Port of Amsterdam has become a partner in the European project H2Ships. This Interreg North-West Europe project focuses on establishing the essential conditions for a successful market introduction of hydrogen as a fuel for shipping. The project will receive approximately €3.5 million in grants from the Interreg North-West Europe Program (2019-2022).

In line with its vision for an emission-neutral cruising, AIDA Cruises, the German brand of Carnival Corporation, is planning the first practical trial of fuel cells aboard an AIDA ship by 2021, the company said in its sustainability report released Monday. 

DNV GL published the revised 'Assessment of selected alternative fuels and technologies in shipping', to provide decision support for investments in ships, for the following five to ten-year period. In the report, DNV GL has identified LNG, LPG, methanol, biofuel and hydrogen as the most promising solutions.

Canada's British Columbia might accommodate the world's largest hydrogen production facility, supporting the province’s zero-emission vehicle policy and exporting to important markets like California and Japan. The project was launched in April 2018, aiming at the potential for large-scale production of renewable hydrogen, which could be used domestically and for export.

During the 2019 Hellenic American Maritime Forum, Mr. Antonis Trakakis, Chief Technology Officer, FORWARD SHIPS, talked about LNG as a fuel. Namely, Mr. Trakakis stated that LNG provides the safest path towards a carbonless future, and there is no reason for the delay of its uptake.

The large-scale production and utilisation of blue hydrogen will allow local industry in Rotterdam to substantially reduce its CO2 emissions well before 2030, according to a feasibility study carried out by 16 companies and organisations within the H-vision project.

IEA's report 'The Future of Hydrogen' focuses on the fact that it can play a crucial role in a clean, secure and affordable energy future. Thus, the report aims to analyse the current role of hydrogen and offer guidance on its future development. 

SW/TCH Maritime (SW/TCH) announced its collaboration with Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine (GGZEM), concerning its aim to build and own the 'Water Go Round' e-ferry. The project leverages proven technology from partners including BAE Systems and Hydrogenics.
