According to a recent statement, Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation has delivered a mobile 30kW hydrogen fuel cell system to a fuel cell ship. The volume per unit power output is reduced to 1/3 compared to the stationary fuel cell systems.

As we are approaching the end of another exciting year for shipping, without a doubt the focus of everyone ahead of 2020 will be on IMO sulphur cap. Ørsted along with six industrial partners have been awarded funding for a demonstration project, called H2RES project, in Denmark using offshore wind power to produce renewable hydrogen for road transport.

MOL and e5 Lab are collaborating to develop and promote electrically powered zero emission vessels. As such, they have concluded to a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU), to perform a joint study of a hybrid pure car carrier equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system and large-capacity batteries (hydrogen hybrid PCC).  

In fact, Japan’s largest shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) together with e5 Lab, a Japanese vessel electrification and digitalization solution provider, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim to carry out a joint study of a hybrid pure car carrier equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system and large-capacity batteries.

Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries launched the world's first liquefied hydrogen carrier, called "Suiso Frontier" at its Kobe Works yard, in a ceremony highlighting the importance of the event. The vessel's construction is expected to be complete by late 2020.

Holthausen Energy Points (HEP) is to build the first hydrogen station at the Port of Amsterdam. Work on the construction of the hydrogen station on Australiëhavenweg is expected to begin in spring 2020. The municipality of Amsterdam has issued a one-off grant of € 0.5 million.

CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, published a report mapping the critical research steps Australia has to take to realize a hydrogen industry it says is potentially worth A$11 billion ($7.5 billion) a year by 2050.
