GE provides technology to first-ever diesel electric propelled vessel

GE announced that it will provide Peruvian Navy with key technologies for its first-ever diesel electric propelled vessel to meet stringent technical demands, including strict low-noise requirements for research vessels. The vessel is being built in Vigo at the Freire Shipyard that specializes in building research vessels . Once ready, this vessel will be used by the Peruvian Navy to carry out research in the Polar Regions.

Project Venice to embrace electric power

Renewable energy propulsion specialist, REAPsystems is pioneering a clean, green 'drop-in' Hybrid technology in Venice 'water taxis' this summer. Venice, a UNESCO World Heritage city, has approximately 20,000 leisure craft and 550 taxi boats serving some 32m visitors every year. All are currently diesel-powered meaning Venice suffers from high levels of air and noise pollution which affects the water, architecture and health of both residents and tourists alike.

ABB to electrify new Norwegian hybrid car ferry

ABB will supply the power system for a hybrid car ferry serving an important passenger route in Norway. Designed with flexibility in mind, the vessel will run as a hybrid but can be modified to run as a full electric ferry with shore charging system. The order is another success for ABB in northern Europe, where regulation is causing passenger ship operators to look at green solutions.
