EU MRV Implementation

Nikolas Theodorou, Verifavia Shipping (Hellas) reminds that the Monitoring Plan is a mandatory requirement according to Article 6 of the EU MRV Regulation, and that it must be submitted to an independent accredited verifier before 31st August 2017 for assessment. The plan which compiles all the information on how the ship’s MRV system works, must be complete, accurate, relevant, and compliant.

Challenges in the implementation of IMO and EU/MRV Regulation

John Kokarakis, Bureau Veritas, notes that the IMO system is simpler and efforts are performed to get some elements from the EU/MRV in order to reach harmonization. For example, issues like uncertainty of monitoring methods are not mentioned. The IMO system does not include publication of fuel consumption data under the name of ship and its publication will be anonymous whereas the EU/MRV is based on publication under the ship name.
