Piraeus Port Authority approved the financial statements for the first semester of 2018, according to which the Greek Port reported a large increase in profit, compared to last year. Earnings after taxes amounted to € 13.3 million compared to € 4.4 million in the first semester of 2017.

Kongsberg Digital and GasLog inked an agreement for Kongsberg to deliver an LNG simulator package designed to enhance safety and operational training for GasLog’s crews. The simulators will be installed in GasLog’s Technical Management HQ in Piraeus, Greece.

A fire broke out onboard a sailboat, off the island of Sifnos in Greece, during the weekend. The boat had two people onboard at the time of the incident. The Hellenic Coast Guard ships went on the scene of the incident to provide assistance, while the passengers got into a private boat, which was on the spot.

Greece-based Anek Lines informed that the passenger ship Eleftherios Venizelos which suffered a fire last week, has been transferred to the shipyard of Perama, where it will be repaired. The ship had departed Piraeus port heading to Chania, Crete, when a fire, erupted from an unspecified cause and originated from the garage.

The aerial footage depicts the Turkish cargo ship 'Arslanbey' which ran hard aground on a Greek beach on the island of Evia, on Wednesday. The Panamanian-flagged vessel was en route from Amaliapolis to Istanbul, carrying 14 crew members and no cargo onboard, when it went ashore on Kanatadika beach.

The first private naval high school (lyceum) is to inaugurate in Greece within September, at the North Aegean island of Chios. The "Tsakos Hellenic Schools of Naval Training" was officially unveiled at the Maria Tsakos Foundation, on 7 August.

Eirini Argiri became the first woman head of port authority in Greece. Namely, Ms. Argiri will be the head of port authority in the Greek island of Chios. Eirini Argiri has studied Chemical Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and has a Master in Mechanical Engineering from NTUA as well.
