World’s first dual-fuel gas engine successfully runs on ethane

MAN Diesel and Turbo announced that its world’s first Gas Injection Ethane two-stroke engine has successfully passed gas trials on board the ‘Gaschem Beluga’, a liquefied ethylene gas carrier, while sailing between Houston and the Bahamas. The ship crossed the Atlantic on its way to Europe, powered solely by ethane, and has achieved a total of 550 operational hours.

Solvang signs contract with HHI for LPG carrier duo

 Solvang ASA and partners have signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea, for the construction of two 78.700 cbm LPG carriers.The vessels will be Panamax VLGC vessels, with the feature of being able to transit both new and old Panama canal. Solvang currently has 50% of the existing global Panamax VLGC fleet.The new vessels are scheduled for delivery in Q2 and Q3 2017. Solvang will be managing owner and the vessels will be placed into one of the existing shipowning companies where Solvang has 30% ownership. TGE Marine supervises gas trials

  TGE Marine has supervised the successful gas trials of three new gas carriers for which TGE Marine delivered the cargo handling systems including tanks. The 30k-LNG-carrier “Hai Yang Shi You” is the world’s largest type C bilobe tank equipped carrier and has been handed over by Jiangnan Shipyard to the owner CNOOC. The gas trial has been conducted at a Chinese LNG terminal. The carrier shall operate at the Chinese coast line and deliver LNG to Hainan island. The last one MT “Navigator Umbrio” of a series of five LEG-carriers of 21,000 m3 capacity delivered by Jiangnan Shipyard to Navigator Gas has been put into operation in Korea. Last not least end of April the first 12,000 m3 LEG-carrier “Happy Albatros” has been delivered by STX to Ultragas Europe. The shipyard will deliver 6 ships in total to the Unigas pool members Ultragas, Sloman Neptun and Schulte group. BW LPG secures USD 400 mln loan for seven VLGC newbuildings

BW LPG Limited announced that it has signed a Facility Agreement for a debt facility of up to USD400 million for financing seven of its VLGC newbuildings. The financing has been raised from The Export-Import Bank of Korea (“KEXIM”) as Export Credit Agency (ECA) lender, with DNB Asia Limited (“DNB”) and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (Publ), Singapore Branch, (“SEB”) as Mandated Lead Arrangers and commercial lenders. DNB and HSBC Bank Plc. (“HSBC”) acted as ECA structuring advisors with HSBC also acting as ECA coordinator. BW LPG Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Gleeson, commenting on the financing said, “We are very pleased with this financing, which leverages the well-priced Korean ECA lending to provide an exceptional all-in cost and structure.” The Facility comprises the following: An ECA tranche of up to USD268 million that is being provided by KEXIM, representing approximately 67% of the facility amount. A Commercial tranche of up to USD133 million, split equally between the two commercial lenders, representing approximately 33% of the facility amount.   The debt financing will be secured against seven of the Company’s VLGC newbuildings. Dorian LPG takes delivery of the ECO VLGC "Corvette"

Dorian LPG Ltd. owner and operator of modern Very Large Gas Carriers ("VLGCs"), reported that on January 2nd it took delivery of the ECO VLGC "Corvette" from Hyundai Heavy Industries. "Corvette", Dorian's third newbuilding delivery, will initially trade in the spot market and is the first of 15 deliveries that the Company expects in 2015. BW LPG takes delivery of BW Aries VLGC

BW LPG Limited announced that it has taken delivery of BW Aries, the first of eight newly-built Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). In a speech given at the shipnaming ceremony in Ulsan, Korea, Nicholas Gleeson, BW LPG’s CEO, spoke to the high quality of the vessel construction and oversight, and highlighted the importance of safety in the design and build processes.  “The completion of this vessel is a testament to a great many hours of exceptional teamwork”, he said.  BW Aries’ and her sister-ships’ designs incorporate modern solutions for improved safety, environmental performance, and fuel savings. Andrew Hoare, BW LPG’s Chief Commercial Officer stated, “The BW Aries is the first of the eight new buildings ordered with HHI and she joins our fleet to enhance our delivery to our customers. BW LPG is a committed industry player in the LPG sector and decisions about the addition of new vessels to the fleet are made based on a long term outlook.” BW Aries will join 19 other VLGCs in BW LPG’s fleet currently on water. World’s first low emission gas carriers to cut the environmental impact of chemical transport

Two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered sea vessels have recently been named on Teesside .  Operated by ship owner Anthony Veder, the new ships will carry Liquefied Ethylene Gas (LEG) from SABIC’s Wilton facility on Teesside to manufacturing plants in North-West Europe and Scandinavia.  The chemicals will be used to make a range of everyday items such as food packaging, PVC, detergents and adhesives.  The state of the art ships will drastically cut both sulphur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions compared to the vessels they are replacing.  Switching to alternative fuels for ships, such as LNG, instead of traditional fuel oils is one of the solutions identified by Anthony Veder to help SABIC further improve its environmental performance.  “As a responsible global company, SABIC is committed to providing high-quality products to its customers while doing all it reasonably can in order to reduce the environmental impact of its operations,” said SABIC’s European Supply Chain Director of Chemicals Wouter Vermijs while attending the naming ceremony.  “We are proud to be the first chemical company in the world to be transporting our products on carriers running on LNG and to have an innovative partner in Anthony Veder.” The new ...
