Two crew of MV Ken Goh injured in rough weather

One died Bulk carrier Ken Goh requested medical evacuation of 2 crew members in position 53 11N 169 06E, 380 nm NE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Pacific ocean, on Oct 21 2011.Two Filipino crew were seriously injured in a rough weather, while working in the open. MRCC Petropavlovsk advised vessel to head for Petropavlovsk, as S&R service doesn't have helicopter capable of such a long-range flight. Vessel is sailing to Petropavlovsk now, ETA 22.10.11 0600 LT.Regretfully, one of injured seamen died. Vessel is en route from Vancouver to China. On Oct 5, 12 Chinese sailors were murdered after two cargo ships were hijacked on the Mekong River China on Thursday demanded swift action from three Southeast Asian countries as they investigate an attack on the Mekong River that claimed the lives of 12 Chinese sailors near the Thai-Myanmar border. Two ship crew members die suffocate in cargo hold

Suffered asphyxiation while they were checking goods in the vault The bodies of two crew members who allegedly died from asphyxiation while trapped in a traveling ship's cargo hold were sent back to the northern city of Hai Phong on Friday.According to the city's port authorities, Nguyen Van Son, head of the crew, and deck hand Dao Dinh Quynh, were found dead in the goods vault of the Nasico Navigator on Thursday.The ship is managed by the Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.Investigators said that Son, 38, and Quynh, 31, suffered asphyxiation while they were checking goods in the vault.The ship was on its way from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong.The Nasico Navigator was previously named My Dinh. The My Dinh sunk when it crashed into rocks off the northern province of Quang Ninh in late 2004. It was then carrying 37 containers to the province.After the accident, the ship was repaired and licensed by Vietnam Register. The causes of the collision The National Transportation Safety Board today determined that the probable cause of a 2009 collision in San Diego Bay between a United States Coast Guard patrol boat and a recreational motorboat was due to the excessive speed of the Coast Guard boat in nighttime conditions in an area of high vessel density, and the Coast Guard's ineffective oversight of its small boat operations nationally and at Coast Guard Station San Diego.On December 20, 2009, at about 5:44 p.m. PST in San Diego Harbor, a 33-foot-long Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement (SPC-LE) Coast Guard vessel with five crewmembers aboard collided with a 24-foot-long Sea Ray recreational boat carrying 13 people. The number of deaths in shipping accidents in EU waters rose to 61in 2010 The number of deaths in shipping accidents in European Union (EU) waters rose to 61 in 2010, up from 52 in 2009.The figures, from the European Maritime Safety Agency Annual Maritime Accident Review, show that the deaths took place during 559 shipping accidents last year compared with 540 in 2009.However, the number of maritime deaths has fallen from 82 in 2007, before the worldwide recession hit shipping activity.The greatest number of fatalities in 2010 involved fishing vessels (33 per cent), with 20 lives lost, followed by cargo vessels (28 per cent).Almost half the accidents (45 per cent) were involved in collisions and contacts with infrastructure, around 22 per cent were involved in groundings, and around 13 per cent in fires and explosions.
