New report highlights the importance of renewable energy in ports

Providing renewable electricity to ships while they are at berth in UK ports has the potential to reduce the equivalent of 1.2 million diesel cars worth of nitrogen oxides pollution and bring £402 million per year of health and environmental benefits. The study found that ships’ auxiliary engines at berth are equivalent to the emissions equivalent to 84,000 to 166,000 buses and coaches.

KfW joins ship recycling initiative

KfW IPEX-Bank became the first German bank to join the initiative "Responsible Ship Recycling Standards". This initiative aims to include scrapping clauses in accordance with international standards into loan agreements, and wants shipping companies to provide at least the minimum standards of occupational safety and environmental protection when scrapping their ships
