Wallenius Wilhelmsen has declared options to build four additional methanol dual-fuel, ammonia-ready pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) at China Merchants Jingling Shipyard.
These 9,300 ceu vessels, part of the company’s Shaper Class, are set for delivery in late 2027 and early 2028. The new vessels will be capable of using methanol and are designed to be converted to ammonia fuel once it becomes available, aligning with Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s net zero emissions strategy.
In October 2023, Wallenius Wilhelmsen announced that it has signed a contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Co. for the construction of the four initial methanol dual-fuel PCTCs and up to eight optional units.
Furthermore, a few months ago, in February 2024, Wallenius Wilhelmsen declared another order for four additional next-generation Shaper Class PCTC vessels.
With these new orders, Wallenius Wilhelmsen now has firm contracts for twelve vessels, with deliveries beginning in mid-2026.
