EMSA's training courses for EU/EEA countries EMSA's training courses for EU/EEA countries are agreed by the "Consultative Network on Technical Assistance" (CNTA).This network meets once per year under the Agency's chairmanship. Here, EU/EEA Member States discuss their training needs and priorities, based on a list of possible topics proposed by EMSA and national administrations.If different sectors of national administrations consider that they need specific assistance in the field of maritime safety, security and pollution prevention, they may channel their requests through their CNTA focal points: an annual training programme is agreed, based on the most popular requests.For more information, click here.Source: EMSA

An EU initiative for the promotion of maritime training EMSA announced that as of 31 July 2011, EMSA's STCW information system (STCW-IS) is available on-line for public consultation.Relevant information on EU's maritime administrations, maritime education, training, certification systems and training institutions as well as EU approved programmes and courses, and career progression schemes available in the EU Member States, can be found.Through a simple interface, the use can browse into specific information about three areas, namely:CountriesThis section contains information about the Parties to the STCW Convention that are recognised by each country, the number of dispensations issued per year, the legislation through which the STCW Convention was implemented at country level, and the career paths for maritime education, training and certification can be found.AdministrationThis section contains details of the quality management system in place (if any),contact information for all entities involved in the implementation of the STCW Convention in each country, and the type of certificates of competency issued by those entities can be found.And Maritime education and training institutionsThis section contains details of the quality management system in place (if any), contact information and structure of the maritime training institutions available in each country, their maritime education and training ...

To comply with EU vessel traffic monitoring and information system regime The European Commission has requested Belgium, Estonia, France, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Finland and the United Kingdom to adopt national legislation to implement EU rules setting up a vessel traffic monitoring and information system .The rules in question, an important measure to prevent loss of life and environmental damage from shipping accidents, were due to be implemented by Member States no later than 30 November 2010.The Commission's request takes the form of a reasoned opinion under EU infringement procedures. If these Member States fail to inform the Commission within two months of what measures they have taken to ensure full compliance with the law, the Commission could refer the case to the EU Court of Justice.Source: EMSA
