Kelvin Hughes signs agreement with Seagull to develop computer based training for ECDIS

On board ECDIS training agreement signed Kelvin Hughes has signed an agreement with Seagull to develop a product specific computer based training module for its MantaDigital ECDIS range.As part of its ECDISplus package, which includes equipment, data, updates and training, Kelvin Hughes will be offering an equipment specific Computer Based Training (CBT) package designed to meet the flag state requirements for on board training on its MantaDigital range of products.Approved by a number of flag states, Seagull's existing ECDIS onboard training course includes training in the use of all aspects of ECDIS, including chart projections, chart accuracy, chart types, chart datum, updates, sensors and alarm strategies. The display of radar and ARPA information on the ECDIS, and route planning is also covered.Under the agreement, Seagull will design the package to be included in the Seagull library of CBT modules as 'Product Specific Training' to meet the latest revisions to STCW, extending Seagull's existing CBT based training.Spike Hughes, commercial marine systems director at Kelvin Hughes said, "the most practical solution to meeting the large type specific training requirement is to institute an on board approach. Transas Marine gets a prestigious ECDIS retrofit order

For Bernard Schulte Shipmanagement fleet Transas Marine has been chosen by Telaccount Overseas Ltd. as a partner for ECDIS retrofit program for Bernard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM). BSM is a global leader in quality Shipmanagement with 320 vessel under technical management and additional 300 under crewing management.According to agreement, Transas Marine will supply its Navi-Sailor ECDIS 4000 Multifunction Display system with numerous additional options, like recently launched Transas Bridge Link (firewall system) and Admiralty Information Overlay with T&P Notices.Transas Admiralty Data Service (TADS) which is an official SENC service will be supplied to the part of the fleet. New agreement between Totem Plus and ECDIS Ltd.

Partnership between ECDIS Ltd and ECDIS manufacturer Totem Plus Totem Plus has joined other major ECDIS manufacturers and has agreed to partner ECDIS LTD. This will enable training to be conducted on its TOTEM ECDIS in ECDIS LTD's new e-Navigation Centre in Southampton, UK. Sperry Marine has supplied ECDIS to 12 BP oil tankers

BP chooses Sperry ECDIS Northrop Grumman Corp's Sperry Marine has supplied ECDIS to 12 BP oil tankers.Sperry has installed four of its new-generation VisionMaster FTTM ECDIS workstations on each of the 12 ships, supplementing their existing Sperry Marine integrated bridge system installations, including radars, autopilots and gyrocompasses.Sperry Marine's ECDIS is type-approved to meet IMO carriage requirements and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) performance standards. Rush to install ECDIS puts price and functionality pressure on makers

System makers busy Manufacturers of electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS) are reducing prices and being pushed to add more functionality as more shipowners and managers order equipment.All vessels over 500 gt will be required to install at least one Ecdis system by July 2018 to be compliant with recent rules laid down by the International Maritime Organization.The industry has a set of rolling deadlines that will keep the system makers busy for the next seven years.Source: Safety4Sea
