Floating platform for civil protection, disaster relief to be developed

General Dynamics European Land Systems-Bridge Systems will develop a multifunctional, modular floating platform known as Pontoon Boat (PoBo). PoBo is a modularly configurable floating device, that can be used to assemble heavy-duty transport, working, diving and recovery platforms or bridges. The PoBo will be ergonomically friendly and will have a mobile virtual reality system to carry out fast and cost-effective training.

Royal Navy bomb disposal diver awarded MBE

Petty Officer, Darren Carvell, a Royal Navy diver has been presented with the award of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for outstanding bravery and commitment to bomb disposal operations. During his time as a diver, Darren Carvell, was responsible for the safe disposal of more than 150 explosive ordnance devices.

Water jet gun fails and injures diver

As IMCA notes, a saturation diver suffered a lost time injury to his left arm during subsea high-pressure water jetting operations. The incident took place when the water jet gun failed, and a part came off the gun. A mixture of causes led to this accident. Equipment failure, improper training and maintenance all played a significant role.
