Sea Asia 2019 day two closed with a panel where the participants talked about fleet management of the future and explored how shipowners will adopt digitalization to truly optimise their fleet operations. The panel concluded in acknowledging that the future of fleet management is in digitalization, transparency and collaboration.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), during the 4th Singapore Maritime Technology Conference, announced its plans to focus on digitalization, assisting companies innovate and be more productive. Wärtsilä launched its RS24 high resolution radar, which is the world's first commercially available K-band maritime radar. The radar is able to detect far smaller objects and at a much higher radar resolution, in comparison to conventional S or X-band radars. It also enables small vessels and other potential hazards close to large ships to be visible. This promotes safety, especially in congested shipping lanes and busy ports.

As IMO 2020 sulphur regulation approaches, ExxonMobil and WingD partner to provide ship owners and operators an integrated system for engine optimisation. Both companies announced that details from their partnership will be leveraged to develop next-generation engines and lubrications solutions.

Keppel Singmarine, Keppel Offshore & Marine's subsidiary, announced the development of an autonomous tug that will operate by Keppel Smit Towage. It is expected to be one of Singapore's first autonomous vessels when the project is completed in 4Q 2020.

A joint industry program between Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and DNV GL class society was announced on April 9. The joint program will consist of ten member companies of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) to examine how spare parts produced by 3D printers can help the industry to cut costs and downtimes.

IMO’s Facilitation Committee addresses the efficiency of shipping by dealing with all matters regarding the facilitation of international maritime traffic, including the arrival, stay and departure of ships, persons and cargo from ports.
