Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Brian Mikkelsen, and Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Gerado Ruiz Esparza, have signed a maritime MoU to increase the two countries’ cooperation on maritime topics, such as digitalization and green shipping.

South Korea and Denmark have announced expansion of their cooperation seeking to enhance global marine navigation systems and develop technologies for automated ships, according to South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The satellite Ulloriaq was launched into space on 2 February 2018 and will orbit around the Arctic approximately 540 km above the Earth to test the ability of the satellite to take pictures and catch signals from ships and aircrafts, among other tasks. The project will last until 2020, when it will be more clear whether this can contribute to this project by the Danish Armed Forces. 

DHI's land-based testing of BWMS will continue only in Denmark. The land-based testing requirements in the regulations pose an increasing challenge to successful type approval testing in tropical environments, which is further affected by the challenging local biological conditions in Singapore waters.

The Danish Government released its new Plan for Growth in the Danish Maritime Sector. The plan includes initiatives aimed at making Denmark a global frontrunner within tests of maritime autonomous technologies and maritime digitalisation and creating more work-experience places at sea.

The Danish Port of Esbjerg has acquired a new harbour terminal that has already been put into operation at the East Port. When the terminal is completed in the spring, it will comprise four fully automatic gates and 1,600 m2 of workshops, washing facilities and offices.  

The Danish Maritime Authority reported an increase on the Danish-controlled fleet, as it has now taken the sixth place on the list of the world’s major shipping nations given as operated tonnage. Denmark has, since, moved up one place.

In January, the two foundations for the Danish offshore wind farm Kriegers Flak, left the port of Ostend, Belgium with destination Koege. In Koege, the foundations will await the arrival of the Heavy Lift Vessel “Rambiz” and a suitable weather window, before the float off and installation can take place.

The registers of the two vessels, the 'Helena Kosan' and the 'Linda Kosan', have been changed to the Danish International Register of Shipping, as they begin a period time charter which will require an EU flag. The reflagging aims to show that the Danish flag is very close to being as competitive as Malta, Singapore and the Isle of Man.

Nor-Shipping is making its first move outside Norway, with a new initiative to help maritime and ocean industry players "realize the almost limitless business potential of the ocean space". Nor-Shipping’s Opening Oceans Conference, taking place in Copenhagen on 2-3 May 2018, will bring businesses together to discuss key opportunities and facilitate fresh collaborations.
