The Danish maritime Authority announced Denmark has maintained its status through the US Coast Guard's QUALSHIP 21 program. The program recognizes and rewards vessels, as well as their owners and Flag Administrations, for their commitment to safety and quality.

Starting from 1st September, seafarers on Danish ships no longer need to hold Danish health certificates, the Danish Maritime Authority announced, in line with a changing scheme for medical examinations of seafarers and fishermen. Instead, the certificate must follow international rules.

On 22 August, the Danish Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Climate, Energy & Utilities Minister inaugurated the 'Horns Rev 3' offshore wind farm, the largest in Scandinavia and one of the most powerful in the world. The wind farm is located about 25-40 km off the west coast of Jutland in the North Sea.

Shortly after it revealed plans for a new digital Danish Register of Shipping, the Danish Maritime Authority informed it reached an important milestone for digital certificates in Ningbo, China. The Danish-flagged container ship 'Mumbai Maersk' passed PSC without remarks, only using digital certificates.

Denmark moved one step up the list of the world's largest shipping countries, measured on merchant ships operated by Danish shipping companies. Denmark is now ranked fifth, in front of countries such as the US, Germany and the UK. Danish shipping companies provided a total of DKK 188 billion last year, thus making shipping one of Denmark's largest export industries.

Denmark has put a fine on French oil and gas major Total, of 500,000 Danish crowns ($75,145) for discharging chemicals in the North Sea, by a company it acquired in 2017, according to the Danish broadcaster DR. The former oil unit of Maersk, Maersk Oil, was reported to the police by the Danish environmental protection agency, back in 2017.

The Danish Maritime Authority revealed plans to start developing the new digital Danish Register of Shipping, expected to be operational by 2020. With a digital register of shipping, it seeks to reduce administrative burden and lower costs for business communities.

The world’s most powerful fully-electric ferry will soon start passenger operations. Namely, the Ellen E-ferry was christened by Danfoss Communications Consultant Christina Clausen, on June 1. The vessel has a 4.3 MWh battery pack. Ellen E-ferry will be operating on a 22 nautical mile sailing between Denmark's islands of Aero and Fynshav.

The Port of Esbjerg, Denmark, plans to expand its lifting capacity by adding an LHM 800 mobile harbour crane, Liebherr, a provider of lifting solutions for the shipping industry announced. The port has seen its number of crane tasks increasing by 66% in the last four years.

The Norwegian Sea Safety Council has launched a new campaign to increase boating safety. In the coming weeks, ports throughout Denmark will be equipped, among others, with signs at the exit and on the boat bridges, to encourage recreational sailors and fishermen to take skipper responsibility.
