Brazil sets two new marine protected areas

To improve the health of the ocean ecosystems and protect the species living in them, Brazil created two new marine protected areas. The protected areas accommodate a rich marine life, including sharks, turtles, rays and whales. This development increases the Brazilian marine protected areas from the 1,5% to 24,5%, surpassing the target set by the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Brazil faces outbreak of yellow fever

Brazil is facing a severe outbreak of yellow fever, having experienced a significant increase in the number of fatal cases and the geographic spread of the disease in the last few months. The yellow fever virus is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. The disease is endemic in tropical areas of Africa, Central America and South America, including some areas of Brazil, notably in the North and Centre‐West Regions.
