BIMCO has developed new guidance for seafarers on the safe launching and recovery of lifeboats using fall preventer devices, aiming to reduce the number of seafarer fatalities and injuries. Despite efforts in recent years to reduce fatalities related to lifeboats, this kind of incidents remains too frequent.

BIMCO and GSF have joined forces to promote readymade container volume contract for shippers and carriers. The two organisations have produced a webcast aimed primarily at small to medium sized shippers, who may not have the resources to develop their own service agreement.

BIMCO has issued a cargo alert to its members to advise that loading of nickel ore from Philippines still poses danger. Therefore, best practices should be taken into consideration to prevent liquefaction incidents. Nickel ore is listed in the IMSBC Code as a Group A cargo that may liquefy.

Bimco informed that launched a new edition of Check Before Fixing, the tool that is used across the industry for daily chartering and shipping transactions. The 2017 edition includes the most recent legal developments and the guidance reflects increasing regulatory requirements, including current commercial practice and for the first time, including an important section on cyber security.
