The International Maritime Prize for 2016 has been presented to Mr. Koji Sekimizu, former Secretary General of IMO, for his contribution to the work of the organization over many years. IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim presented the prize on Monday at the IMO awards ceremony.

Ms. Katerina Stathopoulou, Member of the WISTA International Executive Committee, advises how to ensure a long term career in shipping and talks about WISTA’s efforts to achieve gender balance in shipping, which by nature is a male –dominated industry. Ms Stathopoulou refers to WISTA’s powerful collaborations with big Associations, confirming that the organisation continues action towards women’s empowerment in the maritime community.

RINA Academy Philippines is the winner of the SAFETY4SEA Training Award this year. Capt Nicolo Terrei discusses about the current and future challenges concerning seafarers' training and emphasizes on the need for making seafarers fully familiarized with the new technology introduced onboard. Capt. Terrei further says that training needs to change direction and focus on enhancing the skill of the officer with a deeper familiarization and training ashore as well as on board.
