Spectro has announced a contract for the provision of analysis services for ABB s systems Spectro, a UK-based independent laboratory providing oil condition monitoring services, has announced a contract for the provision of analysis services for ABB's marine electric power and propulsion systems.The co-operation between the two companies will enable ABB to provide oil analysis services to vessels that use any of the range of ABB electric power and propulsion systems. Spectro will provide these services, through its Spectro UK or Jet-Care USA laboratories, enabling ABB to rigorously monitor its various shipboard machinery from larger systems to individual equipment.Spectro claims that its oil analysis services provide an important component for preventive monitoring and will enable ABB and its customers to better understand the health of the equipment and condition of the oil, as well as bringing optimal operation and maintenance performance. ABB wins orders worth a total of $200 million ABB reports that it won equipment orders worth a total of $200 million from Samsung, Hyundai, Keppel FELS and Jurong Shipyard, in South-Korea and Singapore, for 23 new jack-up and DP drilling vessels and one FPSO.The companysays that its delivery will help the ships maximise energy efficiency, and provide a reliable power supply to improve the use of onboard equipment. The scope of supply includes complete electrical systems and related equipment such as generators, distribution switchboards, and transformers, as well as drives and motors to power the ships' thrusters and drilling systems. Substations to increase capacity, strengthen transmission grids in Paraguay ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won orders worth about $80 million from Itaipu Binacional, the operator of the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, to build a new substation in Paraguay and expand an existing installation. The civil works will be carried out by CIE, a Paraguayan construction company. The order was booked in the second quarter.The Itaipu Binacional hydropower plant is located on the Paraná river bordering Brazil and Paraguay. It is the world's largest hydroelectric plant in terms of continual power generation and has an installed capacity of 14,000 megawatts (MW).ABB will build a new air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substation rated at 500/220/66 kilovolts (kV) to connect the electricity generated at Itaipu to a new 500 kV transmission line now being built that will help meet increasing demand for electricity in Paraguay. 3D vessels for sea bottom resource exploration ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, recently won a $24 million order to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for two next generation Ramform vessels, capable of three-dimensional (3D) seismic data acquisition for sea bottom resource exploration.The ships will be constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and delivered to Norways Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS), a leading company in marine seismic and reservoir data acquisition, processing and analysis/interpretation services. Oil and gas companies then use this data to explore for hydrocarbon accumulations, to develop new oil and gas fields, and to manage their producing fields.The Ramform W-class vessels are the newest generation in the Ramform series, featuring advanced 3D seismic data acquisition/analysis capability. At 104 meters long, the ships will feature an exceptionally wide breadth of 70 meters.
